An occupational therapy travel professional works at different healthcare facilities throughout the nation. An occupational therapy travel professional liaises with a wide variety of other professionals, such as doctors, physiotherapists, social workers, volunteers, and equipment suppliers, as well as with patients’ families and employers. An occupational therapy travel professional organizes support and rehabilitation groups for clients and attends multidisciplinary case conferences to plan and review ongoing treatment. An occupational therapy travel professional trains students and supervises the work of occupational therapy assistants. An occupational therapy travel professional completes client and patient records, budgetary records, equipment reviews, and other administrative tasks. An occupational therapy travel professional participates in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, offer recommendations, and develop individual education plans and intervention plans to achieve set goals. An occupational therapy travel professional documents occupational therapy services to ensure the accountability of service provision and to meet standards for reimbursement of services as appropriate. An occupational therapy travel professional reviews occupational therapy services for quality improvement and makes changes as needed to ensure the quality of services.
An occupational therapy travel position requires a BS degree in occupational therapy with three to four years of full-time experience in the relevant field. An occupational therapy travel professional should have the ability to adapt to and modify environments, equipment, and materials, including assertive technology. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are also required.
