In their jobs in occupational therapy, psychiatric professionals work in a wide variety of settings, including mental hospitals, community general hospitals, community mental health centers, psychiatric clinics, schools for the mentally retarded, social service agencies, and other resident and non-resident-facilities that provide psychiatric services such as geriatric-nurse homes, children or adult care developmental program, and other complete home-medications. The clients may have alcohol-related problems, drug addictions, and other emotionally and psychologically-ill patients that need special attention.



In general, as part of occupational therapist careers, psychiatric professionals collaboratively join in planning the program for individual healing and the enforcement of the actual plan of action with the desire to attain a set of objectives. Their desired undertakings and plans are very definite in which they have to perform, which can be involved with the interview of the clients, sourcing-out data information, and actual participation or practice in the hospital settings. They may take temperatures, count pulses and respiration rates, measure blood pressure, and assist in the administration of medications and physical treatments. In many cases, technicians working in hospitals will find themselves concerned with all aspects of the lives of their patients - from eating, sleeping, and personal hygiene to helping them develop social skills and an improved self-image.

Likewise, a psychiatric professionals’ occupational therapy job needs to have stable personalities, and the ability to relate well to people, including patients, their families, and fellow staff members, and the motivation to help others. This does not mean that psychiatric technicians desire to do everything. Rather it means that they respect the worth of each person and that they have a desire to help people function at their highest potential. Because psychiatric professionals will have their interaction with different, they must be keen and empathetic to the feelings of the people they deal with. May areas on being sensitive can be acquired through practice. Yet, the learning steps demand, not only a deep desire to lend one's hear, but also exert its best to his listening ability and observation, as well as provide one's commitment to perform such venue which may be sow confusion or controversy to one's mind.
