Under the direction of the Administrator, Special Education, provide occupational therapy services to students in the Special Education Program. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: Provide scheduled occupational therapy services to students in Special Education Programs; maintain a safe and orderly treatment area. Conduct assessments of students to determine eligibility for occupational therapy. Review reports requesting occupational therapy and coordinate occupational therapy services with students’ health care providers and education staff. Collaborate with District nurse in the coordination of medical care protocols and act as a resource to school personnel in interpreting occupational therapy services. Reevaluate students’ individual occupational therapy plans on a regular basis. Provide reports for use in Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) committees, attend IEP meetings as necessary, and maintains progress notes on student records. Collaborate with parents and school staff regarding plans for occupational therapy services. Maintains a clean orderly treatment center. Performs other duties as assigned. EXPERIENCE DESIRABLE: A minimum of two years successful experience providing occupational therapy services in accredited medical centers, hospitals, clinics, schools, and/or agencies, especially to children and adolescents. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: •Ability to use a variety of modern methods, techniques, and practices in occupational therapy. •Knowledge of the fundamental principles and accepted trends in the field of school occupational therapy. •Oral and written communication skills. •Ability to properly use and to care for the materials, supplies, and equipment employed in performing services as an occupational therapist. •Understanding of the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional growth patterns of students. •Meet schedules and timelines. •Ability to work effectively with all racial, ethnic and socio-economic groups. •Work independently with little direction. •Ability to travel to other sites/locations. PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Physical and mental fitness to serve as a school occupational therapist as certified by a licensed physician and surgeon or medical officer pursuant to Education Code Section 44839 and evidence of freedom from active tuberculosis pursuant to education code Section 49406. EDUCATION AND LICENSE: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. A valid certificate of proficiency in occupational therapy issued by the American Occupational Therapist Association. Valid drivers license.
