This position serves as a Senior Financial Aid Counselor supporting this program and works directly in the College's Financial Aid Office.u00a0Reporting to the Associate Director of Financial Aid, the Senior Financial Aid Counselor is responsible for providing financial aid services to MCC students and overseeing and acting liaison for the Success Grant Program. The Senior Financial Aid Counselor is responsible for managing automated activities from acceptance of awards through fund reconciliation, as well as assisting in other related areas.u00a0 Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assist in the development and implementation of plans and strategies while supporting customer service goals, by maintaining the delivery of ongoing services. Assist the Associate Director in the formulation of policies and procedures for working with Success Grant students and with other units in the College. Work with students and parents of diverse identities and backgrounds to process and determine financial aid eligibility in general. Assist the Associate Director in overseeing the administration of the various student aid programs at the college, and within existing state regulations. Assist in ensuring that the college remains in compliance, with regard to reporting and program reconciliation within published deadlines. Maintain a caseload of students which includes: performing needs analysis according to FM, completing verification, requesting additional documentation for conflicting information, completing R2T4 calculations, determining academic progress and other responsibilities related to the financial aid process. Conduct workshops on the financial aid process and for students and their families, community groups, and area high schools (may require nights and weekends on occasion). Coordinate with the Success Scholars Program Financial Wellness Coach to provide financial aid process workshops for Black/African American, Latinx, and LGBTQ students. Mentor a cohort of Success Scholars (Black/African American, Latinx, and LGBTQ ) students by assisting them in navigating MCC and developing personal success plans. Assist in the front desk operations as needed, including responding to incoming calls and walk-in visitors. Ensure the integrity of data in support of the federal loan programs. Participate in training to broaden staff capabilities in the area of Massachusetts Grant Programs. Maintain current knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations to ensure appropriate compliance. Review cases of special conditions to determine whether these cases warrant the application of professional judgment. Interview students to determine student financial aid eligibility and recommends appropriate action. Approve or disapprove student eligibility for federal, state and institutional financial assistance based upon provided data, standardized procedures and program guidelines. Verify quality of given data and make judgment based on documented exceptions (medical, etc). Counsel and provide information in assisting students and parents with financial planning. Compose correspondence involving unique circumstances on needs assessment or eligibility exceptions. Prepare official correspondence and reports. Maintain knowledge of all office duties and understanding of the various financial aid programs administered at Middlesex Community College. Participate in college recruiting and retention efforts through financial aid high school nights, open house programs and other related activities. Participate in special assignments and/or projects that may arise during the course of office operations. May work extended hours when the office is required to stay open late Job Requirements: Two years' experience in a Financial Aid Office, with at least one year of professional level experience. Bachelor's Degree in Education, Business Administration, Accounting, Human Services, or closely related field Data Utilization: Familiarity with the BANNER Financial Aid Management Module or a similar student information system. Ability to maintain essential records and files in an organized systematic process. Ability to provide financial aid counseling to students and their families Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization:u00a0 Ability to use a personal computer, navigate a database and use Microsoft Office Excel, Outlook and Word. Verbal Aptitude:u00a0 Ability to prepare official correspondence. Ability to prepare clear, accurate and concise reports related to financial aid awards and program administration. Mathematical Aptitude:u00a0 Perform typical financial aid calculations such as needs analysis according to Federal Methodology (FM), reconcile funds, completing R2T4 calculations, determining academic progress and other responsibilities related to the financial aid process. Functional Reasoning:u00a0. Knowledge of the theories and practices involved in financial aid awards and grants of the different aid programs available to students, preferably with caseload management. Knowledge of federal and state regulations regarding the administration of student financial aid. Situational Reasoning:u00a0 Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation and veterans including those with different levels of academic preparation, varying physical and learning abilities.
