The University of Central Arkansas Department Chair is responsible leadership in the academic department, teaching, research and service. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. The position is tenured or tenure track (depending on elgibility) and a twelve-month appointment.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Chair of Occupational Therapy reports to the Dean of the College of Health and Behavioral Sciences (
) and has responsibility for overseeing the Doctor of Occupational Therapy (
) program. The chair will serve as a collaborative member of the
Leadership Council and will provide effective leadership to the department in the areas related to personnel, budget, program development, and facilities. The chair will oversee a well-qualified faculty with diverse clinical, educational and research expertise who are engaged in state, regional, national and international professional activities. The chair and faculty have opportunities to participate in and foster student engagement using innovative learning strategies including problem-based learning, service-learning, and interprofessional education (
) with support from the university and external partners. In addition, the chair will encourage excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Applicants should provide evidence of the following: experience in leadership and the ability to support and mentor faculty; exceptional skills in communication, interpersonal relations, and personnel management; ability to work with university and off campus constituencies; long-range planning skills; and a visionary perspective.
Required Education and/or Experience
The formal education of a doctorate or terminal degree required.
Preferred Education and/or Experience
Preference will be given to candidates who have a record of prior administrative experience, fund-raising, or regional or national prominence as a leader. Rank and tenure status will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
License(s)/Certifications (Required or Preferred)
Preference will be given to candidates who hold or are eligible for licensure as an occupational therapist in Arkansas.
