Job Description Occupational Therapist - Lexington Medical Center - Rehab Services - Fyll-Time JOB SUMMARY The Occupational Therapist is responsible for evaluation and/or treatment of any person when so ordered by a physician, dentist, or podiatrist. Treatment is provided through the employment of physical means such as therapeutic exercise, heat, water, electricity, massage, ultrasound, and the use of rehabilitative procedures and devices. An Occupational Therapist is responsible for the performance of specialized tests, such as manual muscle testing, goniometry and teaching occupational therapy procedures to the patient, family and other health personnel. This position performs outpatient adult and pediatric care as well as inpatient care. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Graduate of an accredited curriculum in Occupational Therapy, B.S., M.A., or Doctorate (accreditation AOTA). One year of experience in pediatric occupational therapy. LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION Licensed to practice Occupational Therapy in the State of North Carolina with current licensure. Active member of AOTA encouraged, but not required. CPR Certification every two years. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Comprehensively assess and reassess fine motor development of young children with known or suspected delays/disorders with a variety of tools and instruments (both standardized and non-standardized). 2. Perform both individual and comprehensive evaluations with multidisciplinary team members. Provide written summary of diagnostic findings to be incorporated into team plan. 3. Plan intervention strategies and communicate effectively with families regarding the child's strengths and weaknesses; work may be performed in homes, agencies, preschools or clinics. 4. Provide occupational therapy treatment services including neuro-developmental and sensory motor therapy, developmental stimulation, home programming, equipment demonstration, or other treatment modality to enhance sensory motor functioning and general developmental status. 5. Provide documentation of goals and objectives for therapy as well as the course and progress of interventions with the child. Participate in IFSP (Individualized Family Service Plan) as needed. 6. Participate in chart review of clinical records for quality assurance. Attend relevant workshops and update instruments/tools to ensure most beneficial practices for population served. 7. Attend scheduled staff, CDSA, or other committee meetings as needed. 8. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Skills and Qualifications: Able to communicate on a professional level with physicians, nurses, and other health care providers and provide quality care for patients. Able to communicate with patients of all age groups and significant others appropriate to the level of comprehension. Has knowledge, clinical skills, and understanding of the patient throughout the entire span of life. Moderate noise environment. Clean, well-lit comfortable climate; however occasional conditions with high moisture content. Frequent exposure to bloodborne pathogens and airborne pathogens, may be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. May make home visits. Exposure to unpleasant patient elements, body fluids. Subject to electro-mechanical hazards. Exposure to chemicals used in cleaning. Occasionally handles emergency or crises situations. Required personal protective equipment eye protection, face protections, gown, mask, lab coat and sterile and non-sterile gloves, shoe covers
